N2 - This thesis deals with the social problem of racism in pedagogics as a science and practice. The starting point in educational theory is to address critical educational theory on the one hand and post-colonial analyses on the other hand. Both perspectives are taken into consideration in an attempt to develop approaches for a contradictory educational conception in the context of globalization and migration. The first chapter focuses on critical movements in pedagogics. First it reflects on the understanding of education, influenced by the critical theories of the Frankfurt School, as well as the critical theories’ basic educational concept in the “contradiction of submission and liberation.” Racism analysis, however, helps to point out the blind spots of the critical theory’s educational concept if and when education is being determined universally and unmarked. The second chapter problematizes the suppression concerning the dimension of racism in the historical narrative of German pedagogics. Special attention is paid to the era of Enlightenment in relation to colonialism. In the third chapter the thesis outlines the current normalized racism and discusses its significance for an educational concept that claims criticism as a constitutive part of itself. It builds on to the theory of Critical Whiteness Studies, which emphasizes the need for marking a position of structurally anchored privileges and to address one’s own positioning towards any racism critique. In doing so it builds on to the theory of the Critical Whiteness Studies, which emphasizes the necessity of marking structurally positioned privileges and of addressing one’s positioning towards every racism critique. The fourth and fifth chapters go into the matter of the contradiction between education and equality by addressing critical racism and anti-racist educational concepts, while also pointing out the limits and possibilities of the strain of solidarity and diversity. The problematization of the relationship between the right to equality with difference, and the stabilization of inequality through their usurpations and their suppression of difference is clearly recognizable. In relation to the stress ratio between deconstruction and emancipation, a self-deprecating practice is advocated from a post-colonial point of view, which always challenges itself to call the marginalization processes into question and relativizes its “self” in relation to “the others”, while at the same time holding on to the right to emancipation. In the sixth chapter the thesis is concluded with the presentation of a conflict-oriented theory and practice that provide an approach on how to deal with racism in an educational context in terms of critical racism. This approach enables the confrontation of one’s position and standpoint with other people’s perspectives as well as the reflection of one’s involvement in hegemonial structures.
